It was my good fortune to have had Niels as a student, and
hearing him today is like a coming of age of his early
promise. He has a developed ear for harmony, his
music is personal, intense and reflects his sense of
integrity. It's a delight to hear him play.

Niels
is een jazzmusicus die, sinds ik hem ruim dertig jaar
geleden op de muziekschool meemaakte, voor honderd procent
heeft waargemaakt waartoe ik hem in staat achtte.
Niels is geen 'high blower' of 'trompetwonder' maar zijn
noten zijn mooi, altijd op hun plaats – zowel
ritmisch, melodisch als harmonisch – en zijn smaak is
onberispelijk.
Ik vind het altijd een genot met hem te mogen spelen en
hoop dat nog lang te kunnen doen.
