As a teacher at the conservatories of Den Haag and Amsterdam Niels enjoys speading the love he has for great jazz, and helping students mastering the the necessary tools like solfege, sight reading, playing by ear or develloping ideas. He was strongly influenced by Barry Harris, who's approach helps young players understand harmonic movement, and swing in good time.

He also teaches amateur bands and does workshops with singers at the koorenhuis, and lectures in various places. He is a teacher of jazz history, composition and of course improvising, and can be booked for private lessons.
